© BreakAway Holidays SL 2004The Costa Blanca is situated on the South East coast of Spain, is known as the "White Coast" and is a favourite holiday destination for all Europeans including the Spanish themselves.

The area from Alicante in the North southwards to the Mar Menor is a region of contrasting gentle landscapes and rugged coastline covering every aspect of Spanish life from bustling, cosmopolitan towns to traditional Spanish villages.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing break on one of the beautiful sandy beaches, by the pool of your villa, or perhaps exploring the area soaking up the Spanish culture, the area has much to offer all of your senses. Visit the cosmopolitan city of Alicante and stroll along the paseo perhaps for a jug of Sangria and tapas in one of the many bars along the promenade.

Located to the south of Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa has some of the most superb beaches along the coastline, all of which are blue flag. There are well established residential areas from Los Altos to Playa Flamenca through to Campoamor offering resident and visitor alike an abundance of restaurants, bars and many other facilities within the many commercial centres. Many superb championship golf courses are also in close proximity.

Villamartin and Las Ramblas are fabulous golf developments situated just south of Torrevieja. Villamartin's 18-hole golf course was opened in 1972 and in March 1994 was host to a European tour event. It is a very testing course, 6.132 metres long and very popular with both professionals and amateurs alike. The Las Ramblas 18-hole golf course was opened in April 1991 and there are already plans for at least two more courses to be built here. You can find out more about the local golf courses here.

It should however be pointed out that you don't have to be a golfing enthusiast to enjoy living or visiting here. The tranquillity, beautiful scenery and proximity to both sandy beaches and Torrevieja town, make the area an attractive place for everybody. There are also numerous street markets held every day of the week in the Torrevieja area, all within easy travelling distance.

The Plaza at Villamartin offers both young and old an enjoyable night out, with a lively multicultural mix of bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Set among palm trees with a colourful array of resident parrots you can sit beneath them watching people and soaking up the atmosphere. There is a second floor with still more entertainment for you to sample. Most of the bars, restaurants are open all the year round and there is a small supermarket that carries many Irish and British products, newspapers and magazines.

Dining out is inexpensive with inumerable excellent restaurants to choose from, with many restaurants being renowned for their speciality dishes such as roasted lamb, piglet or ostrich to the fish and seafood restaurants specialising in lobster, fish baked in salt, and seafood platters. The selection of quality wines is superb with prices much lower than the UK and Ireland and a diverse range to suit all palates and pockets.
